The Every Child Matters Children of the Rising Sun design features two children together beneath a brilliant orange and yellow sun, surrounded by Métis-inspired floral dot art. Flowers, leaves, berries and flowing details create a circular design filled with colour, while the rising sun represents another day, another generation and the strength of children, families and communities.
At the heart of the design are the words Every Child Matters, a message that honours the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors who did, their families and the generations that continue their stories.
The two children standing together are a reminder that reconciliation is not only about remembering the past. It is also about protecting children today and creating a future where Indigenous children, cultures, languages and communities can thrive.
Created for Turtle Island Market, this contemporary design draws inspiration from the colourful floral beadwork traditions associated with Métis art while incorporating the orange colours recognized across Canada through Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
